“Mom, why do we have to give money to God when He is invisible? How can He even use it?” This question, asked by my three year old, was in response to a lesson on tithing. Both my boys have been doing chores and earning money each week. Upon receiving their money, we have them first take out ten percent for tithe and ten percent for savings.
We’ve spent a lot of time teaching the value of money. We’ve also talked about money being an idol in our heart. They have learned how the church uses the money they tithe for the building of God’s Kingdom. Teaching them that all money is God’s money is a hard concept for children to grasp. However, we want them to develop the habit of immediately putting the money aside when they get paid. For a long time, we had divided up the money into envelopes. It wasn’t a satisfactory system. I did some research and found a plastic bank designed to teach children to set aside money for charity, savings, and spending. It is simple for young children to use and understand. Here’s the link to where I found the savings bank: ABC Learning Bank (Kids Bank)
Have you had a “Teach Me Jesus” moment this past week? I would love to hear about it. Include your link in the comment section.
Very cool… I’ve been wondering when to start something like this with A. What kind of chores do y’all use for 3-4 year olds?
Every morning they have to put their clothes in the laundry. After every meal they have to clean off their plates and put it in the dishwasher. They put their folded clothes away. They help clean the bathrooms. They have to clean their room every night. Plus a few other things:)
This is wonderful. Your kids will be kingdom builders with that kind of teaching!
This is great….
