Speaking the Truth to Ourselves

Psalm 42

I woke up that morning sick. “I’ll never make it to the end of the day” I muttered to myself.

My husband was due to leave town for work. “How am I going to manage the kids while feeling like this?” These thoughts traveled with me throughout the day, spawning new ones. “This is too much, I just can’t do it.” “Can’t they see that I am sick? Why can’t they listen for once?” Before I knew it, I was overwhelmed, stressed, irritable, distraught.

Talking to Ourselves

I remember teasing my mother for talking out loud to herself. Now I find myself doing the same thing. While most of us may not be in the habit of talking out loud to ourselves, we all keep some kind of internal dialogue. The problem is, we all too often fail to *talk back* to ourselves…

I found this post via Kirk Cameron’s fb page and wow, just wow! I cannot tell you how much I needed this today. My family has been in a season of trial for the last handful of years. SO many things have happened and I’m just plain weary. Last night, it seemed like things had just come to a head and I just couldn’t handle anything anymore. I was lashing out at my family and then begging God to not let me wake up as I cried myself to sleep on the couch away from my husband. My heart hurts so bad and my thoughts are crushing. But THIS post feels like the wake up call that I needed. It’s the negative self talk (exacerbated by our circumstances) that has led me into this self created pit. Thank you for reminding me of the Truth.
